IEP Experience

My experience with IEP students has been greatly enhanced during my student teaching experience. My cooperating teacher has one class of mostly special education students. We have seven adaptive students in this class alone. I have had the privilege of working with them one-on-one during my time with them, and it has given me a greater insight on working with those kinds of students. It has been interesting learning how to adapt different lessons for these students, but it has been a rewarding experience. Below you will find some work from the adaptive kids along with an explanation of how that particular activity was adapted to their needs.

WWII Mini-Project
These are products of two of our lowest functioning students in our class. The Five W Poem is easiest for them to understand, so I told them that they could use that poetic form. I also told them all to use Anne Frank as their focus because we had just finished reading The Diary of Anne Frank and it was fresh on their minds. I let them do whatever they wanted for their illustration because I wanted to see their capabilities. Although some of their information is incorrect, I was still glad to see that they had retained most of the information they were given over the entire unit.

Student Interest Survey
During my methods experience, I had to select a special education student and have them complete a student interest survey that I created. Below is a link to one of these student's form. Attached is also a reflection on what I learned from the activity.
