Certifications and Specialties

Below is a list of certifications, awards, and specialties I have that I believe will be beneficial both in and out of the classroom.

Class B, Secondary (16A), English Language Arts (67A) Certification (Issued June 2016)
After completing my undergraduate degree in Secondary English Language Arts, I have received my Class B certification in the state of Alabama for grades 6-12.

NCLB HQ Teaching Areas
Based on the Alabama Model HQT guidelines, I am highly qualified in English Language Arts and Reading (67A) for grades 6-12.

ARI Certification (Issued Sept 2015)
This two day workshop on the Alabama Reading Initiative was very beneficial. I learned multiple different ways to assess student understanding using various activities. I have already started using several of them in my teaching.

Substitute Teacher Certification (Issued Feb 2016)
I received my substitute teaching certification in January 2015 and have already subbed several times within my school I am student teaching in. This has allowed me to get an idea of facilitating and managing my own classroom. This experience will be very beneficial when I am teaching on my own full time.

Honors

Dean’s List                                                             Spring 2014, Fall 2014, Spring 2015, Spring 2016
President’s List                                                                                                                          Fall 2015

Leadership (Aug 2015- Dec 2015)
Vice President and founding member of the University of South Alabama's College of Education organization Future Educators in Action (FEA)

After helping found FEA in late 2014, I was elected Vice President of the organization in the fall semester of 2015. I helped coordinated organization meetings, plan volunteer activities, and make the organization known in the College of Education through PR events such as Professor Appreciation Week and providing study breaks during finals that included coffee and cookies. This experience was beneficial in sharpening my collaboration and communication skills as well as my leadership skills. These skills will be ones that I transfer to my teaching career.

Other Skills and Capabilities
I was a starter on the varsity girl's soccer team and the varsity girl's swim team all four years I was in high school. My senior year, I was voted captain of the varsity girl's swim team. I helped lead my soccer team to play-off's three times during my time at the school. If possible, I would love to transfer my knowledge in these sports to students to better them athletically.

In addition to sports I was also an active member in several organizations in high school including SGA, Key Club, and Gamma Omega Delta (a Christian organization I helped found). I believe my experiences in these organizations can be transferred to my teaching experience. I would be willing to sponsor various organization to ensure students have different outlets to be involved in their school and their community.
